c. Make sure each exhaust pipe is correctly
seated in the exhaust port or exhaust mani-
fold.
d. Loosely install the entire exhaust system and
finger-tighten the hardware.
e. First, torque the exhaust pipe-to-cylinder
head nuts (B, Figure 110) and the exhaust
manifold bolts (Figure 108) to 20 N•m (15
ft-lb.).
f. Then, torque the muffler clamp screws (A,
Figure 107) to 20 N•m (15 ft.-lb.).

Inspection
The exhaust system is vital to the motorcycle's
operation and performance. Periodically inspect the
exhaust system.
Replace parts that have excessive dents that cause
flow restrictions.
To prevent internal rust buildup, periodically re-
move the drain bolt from each muffler to drain away
trapped moisture.
1. Check for leaks where each muffler joins an ex-
haust pipe (A, Figure 112).
2. Inspect the drain bolts for corrosion or exhaust
leaks. Replace the bolts and washers if necessary.
3. Inspect the muffler mounting brackets (B, Fig-
ure 112) for wear or damage. Replace the muffler as
necessary.
