6. Remove the caliper mounting bolts (A, Figure
26) and lower the pad holder (B) from the fork
slider.
7. Disassemble and inspect the caliper as described
in this chapter.
Installation
1. Set the pad holder (B, Figure 26) into place on
the fork slider and secure the holder with the caliper
mounting bolts (A). Apply a medium-strength
threadlocking compound to the threads of the cali-
per mounting bolts and torque the bolts to 40 N•m
(30 ft.-lb.).
2. Install the brake pads as described in Steps 9-12
of Front Brake Pad Replacement in this chapter.
3. Place the brake hose against the caliper port so
the brake hose neck sits on the inboard side of the
indexing post (A, Figure 25). Install a new copper
washer on each side of the brake hose fitting.
4. Install the banjo bolt (B, Figure 25). Torque the
bolt to 30 N•m (22 ft.-lb.).
5. Add brake fluid to the reservoir and bleed the
brakes as described earlier in this chapter.
Disassembly/Assembly
1. Remove the brake pads and brake caliper as de-
scribed in this chapter.
WARNING
In the next step, the pistons may shoot
out of the caliper body with consider
able force. Keep your fingers out of
the way. Wear shop gloves and apply
air pressure gradually. Do not use
high pressure air or place the air hose
nozzle directly against the hydraulic
line fitting in the caliper body. Hold
the air nozzle away from the inlet, al
lowing some of the air to escape.
2. If still installed, remove the pad spring (Figure
27) from the caliper body.
3. Pad the pistons with shop rags or wood blocks as
shown in Figure 28. Block the exposed housing
fluid port holes on the caliper housing. Apply com-
pressed air through the caliper hose port and blow
the pistons out of the caliper. Remove the pistons
from the caliper cylinders. See Figure 29.
