10.2.6 Switching/Reset
Switching refers to the manual switchover operation to the equipment in active or standby
mode. In other words, all services on the active equipment are transferred to the standby
equipment. You can compare the running status of the switched systems to determine whether
the equipment in active mode is working properly and whether the relationship between the
active and standby equipment is coordinated.
Reset refers to the manual reboot of certain parts or all the parts of the equipment. You can
use this activity to analyze bugs of the software. For example, you can use this activity to
determine whether the software is running properly, and whether the programs are in deadlock.
This activity is an extreme operation when no other operation can be performed to solve the
problem.
Compared with other methods, switching and reset cannot identify the cause of a fault
accurately. Because of the randomness of software running, faults occurred before the
switching or reset is hard to re-occur in a short period, which covers the real cause of the
faults and brings potential risks to the security and stability of the equipment. Therefore, these
two activities are the measures that are adopted in case of temporary emergencies and should
be used with caution.
10.2.7 Apparatus/Meter-Aided Analysis
Apparatus or meters are commonly used to analyze and identify faults. Apparatus/Meter-aided
analysis can directly reflect the faults through direct and quantitative data. This activity is
widely used in waveform analysis and line error detection.
10.3 Fixing Common Faults
For common faults that occur during the use of the MCU, you can fix them by using the
methods described in the following sections.
10.3.1 The MCU Fails to Register with the External GK.
Symptom
The MCU fails to register with the external GK.
Analysis
Solution
Issue 10 (2013-07-20)
Network failure
Inconsistent settings for registration
The IP address of the MCU is in the restricted network segment of the GK.
Network failure
Run the ping command to test the connectivity between the GK and the MCU.
Inconsistent settings in registration
Log in to the MCU through SSH. Run the display gk command to view the settings for
registration with the GK. Ensure that GK enable is set to enable and that the IP address
of the GK and the password used by the MCU for registration are correct.
