2.2.5 Connecting the Optical Fiber Cable
Prerequisites
Procedure
Step 1 Before connecting the optical fiber cable, attach temporary labels to both ends of the optical
fiber cable, thus avoiding confusion.
Step 2 Route the optical fiber cable upward along the cabling trough on the optical interface board.
Remove the protective cap and clean the optical connector with the fiber cleaning paper.
Step 3 Align the connector with the guide rail of the optical interface on the board and insert the
connector with moderate force until the connector clicks into place.
Step 4 Connect the optical fiber cable to the SEP port on the board.

2.3 Powering On the 8650C MCU
Before using the 8650C MCU, check that the environment is suitable for the operation of the
MCU and cables are properly connected. Then power on the 8650C MCU.
2.3.1 Verification Before Power-On
After you install the 8650C, verify device installation, cable connection and power supply
before powering it on.
Verifying Device Installation
Before verifying device installation, you must power off the switches of power modules.
Verify the following device installation items:

Carefully check the types of the optical connectors on the device side and the client side.
Store the fiber protective cap after you connect the optical fiber cable so that you can
later use it to cover the optical connector during the time of maintenance when it is not
being used.
Do not bind the optical fibers too tightly. Otherwise, the communication quality of the
MCU will be affected.
Measure the optical transmit power before inserting the optical connector of the optical
fiber cable into an optical interface on a board. Ensure that the optical transmit power is
between the receiver sensitivity and the saturation power of the optical interface.
All bolts are mounted securely and the device has enough space around for cooling, if
the 8650C is installed in a cabinet.
