ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Dust
A cooling fan is installed into the GS4000; therefore do not locate the GS4000 in a place where
it can be affected by high humidity or dust. When using the method to measure the amount of
falling dust equals 5%/W or less:

Corrosive Gas/Inflammable Gas
Do not locate the unit in a place where corrosive or inflammable gas may be present. These
substances can corrode internal components, thus causing reliability problems and
shortening the life of the device.

Floor Material
Although you can locate the GS4000 in a general office environment, we recommend the floor
materials have the following qualities:

(4) Direct Sunlight
Keep the device away from direct sunlight, since it can cause it to overheat.

Water
Keep the unit away from areas where it could accidentally be splashed with water, such as
when cleaning a floor.
(6)
Electromagnetic Interference
Using high-frequency or electrically-noisy machinery around the device can cause reliability
problems. The GS4000 itself also emits weak high-frequency noise, which could affect
television, radio, and transceivers situated within 30 m of it.

Protection of Cables
Ensure that all cables connected to the device are armored or otherwise protected so that
rodents or other cable-eating beasties do not gnaw through them.
Especially when folding the optic fiber cables into the circles/ovals, the radius should be the

You can measure the amount of dust by using the following method:
Dust collection for 1 week

NOTE: Avoid locating the unit near printers or in a frequented area, since these places are often
dusty with toner and other particles.
