CAUTION
Do not operate the Centrifuge module without inspecting and cleaning
the buckets and rotor routinely. Failure to clean and lubricate the buckets
and rotor will result in an imbalance during centrifugation. An imbalance
condition causes the Centrifuge module to shut down, requiring removal
of all sample tubes.
If the laboratory's cleaning or decontamination procedure for a Centrifuge
is different from this procedure or the Hettich unit procedure, check with
your technical support provider to verify that the procedure cannot
damage the Hettich unit.
When performing maintenance on the Hettich unit, use the following
guidelines:
•
Lubricate the rotor and the buckets when you clean the Hettich unit or
when you replace the buckets or the rotor.
•
Replace any Hettich unit buckets (in sets of 4) that show wear and tear,
cracks, or corrosion or have reached 190,000 cycles or that have
exceeded the use date.
•
If the laboratory autoclaves the metal buckets, use the autoclave at
121°C (249.8°F) for 20 minutes.
Remove the plastic bucket inserts prior to autoclaving to avoid
accelerating the aging process of plastics.
•
Humidity in the air or in the Hettich unit can lead to condensation,
which causes corrosion.
Clean and dry the Hettich unit often to keep the unit operational.
Accessing the Hettich Unit
Before you perform general maintenance on the Hettich unit, perform the
following steps to remove the Hettich unit from the Centrifuge module:
1. At the LineMaster workspace, ensure the Centrifuge module is in the
shutdown state and no sample tubes remain in the Centrifuge module.
2. On the front panel of the Centrifuge module, push in the E-stop button.
WARNING
Do not reach into the Hettich centrifuge unit through the hatch to
remove sample tubes, cassettes or buckets. Reaching into the Hettich
centrifuge unit through the hatch can cause bodily injury. Pull out the
Hettich centrifuge unit and open the lid to remove any components.
