1 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

1.9 SINGLE PHASE TRIPPING

This section applies to the LPS-D with Single Phase Tripping only.
NOTE
When used in a single phase tripping application, the LPS-D is designed so that only the faulted phase is
tripped for a single line-to-ground fault, but all phases will be tripped for any multi-phase fault. To accomplish
this goal, the LPS-D includes a faulted phase determination algorithm. This algorithm uses a combination of
distance measuring functions and current-only faulted phase selection algorithms to select the fault type. The
output of this algorithm, along with other logic, determines which trip outputs are energized for each fault. The
trip output logic for the LPS-D is shown below for all logic schemes except the Hybrid; the trip output logic for
the Hybrid scheme is shown in Figure 1–19: SINGLE PHASE TRIPPING LOGIC (HYBRID SCHEME).
