2 Phase or Split-Phase Systems
This is very common in the United States of America.
A split phase system has the following properties:
At the output side there are three wires. Two lines that are 180° out of phase with each

other and a center tap neutral
This configuration can be created by having a step-down transformer with center
•
tapped secondary winding
If loads are balanced between each phase, then the neutral current is zero
•
Neutral is connected to earth ground at the power supply end
•
