2.2.2.1
Serial communication ports
The COMM 1 and COMM 2 slots each contain a 40-pin connector to support a hot-swappable serial
communication module
or RS-422) communication between the RMC and external measurement equipment such as pressure
or temperature transmitters, or communication equipment such as radio systems.
DANGER – Serious damage to health / risk to life. Explosion Hazard: Do not connect
or disconnect connectors or their terminations while energized unless the area is known to
be non-hazardous.
Figure 2-7: Hot-swappable communication module
The configured interface type and the distance between the RMC and the connected external device
determine maximum serial communication speed. Supported port speed ranges from 2,400 bps to
115,200 bps.
2.2.2.2
USB port
The USB Type B port provides high-speed serial communications between the RMC and equipment,
host systems or computers with USB interfaces. The port supports local operator access through
PCCU32.
The USB port has two speed modes: full speed and high speed. The RMC automatically negotiates
data transmission rates with the host system.
2.2.2.3
Ethernet ports
The RMC has an embedded managed Ethernet switch. It has two Ethernet ports (E1 and E2) for
communication between the RMC and external devices.
