Boot Failure Troubleshooting
This section describes how to determine if the system is malfunctioning due to a failure at
bootup. To perform this process, begin with Procedure 1 and perform the remaining
procedures as instructed. The procedures described in this section include:

Procedure 1
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if conflicts between the hardware setup and the
actual system configuration are preventing the system from booting from the HDD or the
FDD. To perform this procedure, begin with Check 1 and continue as instructed.
Check 1 If possible (if not possible, perform Procedure 2), review the system setup
parameters and correct inconsistencies with the actual system configuration.
If no problems are identified and corrected while reviewing the setup parameters,
perform Procedure 2. If problems are identified and corrected while reviewing
the setup parameters, perform Check 2.
Check 2 Test to determine if the problem still exists.
If the problem still exists, perform Procedure 2. If the problem no longer exists,
perform the Repair Completion Process.
Procedure 2
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if expansion cards and devices are causing the
boot failure. Defective expansion cards and devices installed in the system can prevent the
system from booting properly. To perform this procedure, begin with Check 1 and continue as
instructed.
Check 1 (A) Remove all expansion cards and devices from the system (refer to Chapter 4).
(B) Reboot the system.
If the system successfully loads DOS, perform Check 2. If the system does not
successfully load DOS, perform Procedure 3.
Check 2 Reinstall expansion cards and devices one at a time and test after each installation.
If the system successfully loads DOS, perform Check 4. If the system does not
successfully load DOS, perform Check 3.
