Select Control Panel.
Select System and Device Manager.
Verify that " Toshiba CD-ROM XM-56028 " is selected. If it is not selected,
select it.
Procedure 2
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if the CD-ROM drive eject mechanism
functions properly. To perform this procedure, begin with Check 1 and continue as
instructed.
Check 1
Press the eject button on the CD-ROM drive.
If the CD-ROM eject mechanism operates properly (if the caddy ejects properly),
perform Procedure 3. If the mechanism does not operate properly, perform
Check 2.
Check 2
Determine if the CD-ROM drive LED flashes red when the computer is turned on.
If the LED does not flash red, perform Procedure 6. If the LED does flash red,
perform Procedure 10.
Procedure 3
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if the CD-ROM drive caddy properly recedes.
To perform this procedure, perform the following Check.
Check
(A) Insert an audio CD into the CD-ROM caddy. (B) Press the eject button on the
CD-ROM drive.
If the caddy properly recedes, perform Procedure 4. If the caddy does not properly
recede, perform Check 2 of Procedure 2.
Procedure 4
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if the CD-ROM drive properly functions with a
CD-ROM installed. Before performing this procedure, complete the following instructions,
then begin with Check 1 and continue as directed:
Access the Windows '95 main menu.
Select Program.
Select CD Player.
Increase the volume.
Click on [PLAY].
Check 1
Listen for audio coming from the monitor's (or external) speakers.
If audio can be heard from the speakers, perform the Repair Completion Process.
If audio cannot be heard from the speakers, perform Check 2.
