Procedure 8
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if the data cable that connects the CD-ROM
drive to the system board is defective. To perform this procedure, begin with Check 1 and
continue as instructed.
Check 1 (A) Disconnect the HDD data cable and use it in place of the CD-ROM data cable
(refer to section 4.1.3.2.). (B) Test the CD-ROM drive by playing an audio CD-
ROM.
If audio can be heard from the speakers, perform Check 2. If audio cannot be
heard from the speakers, perform Procedure 9.
Check 2 (A) Replace the defective CD-ROM data cable (also, reconnect the HDD data
cable). (B) Perform Procedure 6.
Procedure 9
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if the TV Tuner Card is defective, causing
audio problems. To perform this procedure, begin with Check 1 and continue as instructed.
Check 1 Determine if a TV Tuner Card is installed in the computer.
If a TV Tuner Card is installed, perform Check 2. If a TV Tuner Card is not
installed, perform Procedure 10.
Check 2 (A) Disconnect the CD-ROM audio cable from the TV Tuner Card at JP4 (CD)
and connect the cable to the system board at J1F2 (CD) (refer to section 4.1.3.3.).
(B) Test the CD-ROM drive by playing an audio CD-ROM.
If audio can be heard from the speakers, perform Check 3. If audio cannot be
heard, perform Procedure 10.
Check 3 (A) Reconnect the CD-ROM audio cable to the TV Tuner Card at JP4 (CD IN).
(B) Verify that the audio cable is connected between the TV Tuner Card at JP5
(AUX OUT) and the system board at J1FC (CD). (C) Test the CD-ROM drive
by playing an audio CD-ROM.
If audio can be heard from the speakers, perform the Repair Completion Process.
If audio cannot be heard, perform Check 4.
Check 4 (A) Replace the TV Tuner Card (refer to section 4.5.). (B) Test the CD-ROM
drive to determine if the original problem still exists.
If the original problem still exists, perform Procedure 10. If the original problem
no longer exists, perform the Repair Completion Process.
