Check 2
Determine if the HDD's LED flashes green when the HDD is accessed.
If the LED flashes green, perform Check 3. If the LED does not flash green but
the system boots properly, perform the LED Troubleshooting Process. If the
LED does not flash green and the system does not boot from the HDD, perform
Procedure 2.
Check 3
Attempt to reboot the system from the HDD.
If the system does not reboot, perform Procedure 2. If the system does reboot,
perform Check 4.
Check 4
Inspect the HDD to determine if it is spinning at a constant speed.
If the HDD is not spinning at a constant speed, perform Procedure 2. If the HDD
is spinning at a constant speed, perform Procedure 6.
Procedure 2
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if the data cable that connects the HDD to the
system board, and the power cable that supplies power from the power supply unit to the
HDD through the P2 connector, are damaged or are not connected properly. To perform this
procedure, begin with Check 1 and continue as instructed.
Check 1
Inspect the data and power cables to the HDD and the system board for damage
and improper connections.
If the data and power cables are not damaged and are properly connected,
perform Procedure 3. If the data and power cables are damaged or are not
properly connected, perform Check 2.
Check 2
(A) Replace damaged cables, or reconnect improperly connected connectors
(refer to section 4.1.2.). (B) Test to determine if the problem still exists.
If the problem still exists, perform Procedure 3. If the problem no longer exists,
perform the Repair Completion Process.
Procedure 3
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if the power supply unit is providing the
appropriate voltages to the HDD. To perform this procedure, begin with Check 1 and
continue as instructed.
Check 1
Measure to determine if the HDD power cable has 12VDC (yellow) and 5VDC
(red).
If the voltages are within specification and remain stable, perform Check 2. If the
voltages are not within specification or do not remain stable, perform the Power
Supply Troubleshooting Process.
Check 2
Attempt to reboot the system from the HDD.
If the system reboots from the HDD, perform Procedure 6. If the system does not
reboot from the HDD, perform Procedure 4.
