Notes on replacing Hard Disk Drives in a RAID Configuration

When the hard disks are in the RAID system configuration, you can restore the state
before an error using the auto-rebuild feature that stores the data in the old hard disk
into a new one.
The auto-rebuild feature is available for the RAID1, RAID5, or RAID10 RAID system
configuration.
Auto-rebuild is carried out when you hot-swap a failed hard disk with a new one
(replace the disk while the server is powered). While auto-rebuild is in progress, the
DISK lamp flashes green and amber alternatively to indicate it.
When auto-rebuild fails, the DISK lamp lights in amber.
Remove and install the hard disk again to restart auto-
rebuild.
If the RAID system monitoring utility is installed, it may dis-
play or act as follows:
- Displays "Rebuild was cancelled" on the screen while
- Appears to stop and restart auto-rebuild.
Observe the following notes for auto-rebuild.
■ Do not power off the server between a hard disk drive error and the completion of
the auto-rebuild.
■ Wait at least 90 seconds between the removal and the replacement of a hard disk
drive.
■ Do not replace another hard disk drive while a rebuilding is in progress. (The
DISK LED flashes alternatively green and amber while rebuilding the hard disk
drive.)
Caution
auto-rebuild is in progress.
