Actual signals and parameters
Description
There are three methods used to calculate the actual diameter of the
roll; selected by

CALC DIA USING. Method 1 uses an AI from
an ultrasonic sensor. Method 2 is the internal calculator used when the
Tension or Dancer macro is selected. Method 3 is the internal
calculator used when the Lead macro is selected.
All Methods
In order for the diameter calculator to be active:
- the program is allowed to count

Method 1
There are two parameters used to scale the analog input to give a
diameter value:

MAX ROLL DIAMETER and
MIN DIA. The maximum input (10 VDC / 20 mA) is set to
ROLL DIAMETER and the minimum input (0 VDC / 2 mA / 4 mA) is set
to

SENSOR MIN DIA. It is assumed the measuring device is
linear.
Method 2
When a tension regulator is used, the internal calculator uses the

SPEED REF. For this calculator, it is assumed that the motor is turning
at the rate necessary for its diameter to achieve the desired line
speed; otherwise the web would be broken. With this in mind and
remembering that the ACTUAL SPEED REF is relative to the
MIN CORE DIAMETER and already accounts for the gear ratio and
PI; the following is basically the equation needed to calculate the
diameter:
