Installation and initial operation
For a system with six server blades and more three power supply units are
necessary. In this case no power supply redundancy is given. For a redundant
power supply configuration a fourth power supply unit can be installed. If one of
the four units fails, the other three ensure that operation continues unimpaired.
The defective power supply unit can be replaced during operation (hot-swap).
The unoccupied PSU locations (slots) are fitted with dummy modules to ensure
that the electromagnetic emission properties of the system are observed and
that the system components are properly cooled.
Because of chassis airflow disruption, the power supply unit bay should
!
not be vacant and/or not covered for more than five minutes when the
system power is ON. Exceeding the five-minute limit may damage
components.
The power supply unit can communicate with the system service
i
processor via the I2C bus interface. PSU part number, FRU number,
barcode number, manufacturer ID, and fault data are stored in a VPD
EEPROM module with I2C interface. The PSU status can be displayed
via the server management software ServerView.
