Fault 124: Invalid Hall State –
Starter/Generator

Fault Description
This fault is reported when the Hall effect sensors in the Starter/Generator (S/G) are providing an invalid
reading. When this sensor fails, the engine will not maintain a steady speed.
Note:
This fault will not disable the machine functionality
Circuit Description
Hall effect sensors are used to detect and monitor engine speed. The Starter/Generator reports the engine
speed to the Primary TEC controller.
Recommended Service Actions
Step 1: Verify that the fault repeats.

Clear the system faults from the InfoCenter. Refer to

Operate the machine.
Pass
The fault did not repeat. Go to

If the fault does not repeat, an isolated event has occurred.
Fail
The fault repeated. Go to Step 2.
Step 2: Inspect the wiring connections between the S/G and the
controller.
The S/G and its controller have wiring connecting them. Inspect the wiring between the S/G controller and the
motor/generator.

Remove the S/G assembly from the machine. Refer to Chapter 6 of the Greensmaster TriFlex 3320/3420
Service Manual. Use the Removal procedure in either the Generator Assembly (Greensmaster 3320)
section or the Generator Assembly (Greensmaster 3420), depending on your machine.
2.
Remove the controller from the S/G. Refer to Chapter 6 of the Greensmaster TriFlex 3320/3420 Service
Manual. Use the applicable parts of the Generator Assembly Service section.
3.
Visually inspect the wiring and connectors in both the generator assembly and the controller.
Pass
The wiring between the controller and the starter/generator passed inspection. Go to Step 3.
Fail
The wiring between the controller and the starter/generator did not pass inspection. Only repair
wiring that has worn insulation or a recessed connector pin. Replace all components that have
damaged, burned, or broken wiring. Go to
