NEC IT3510/IT2510 Operations Manual

Relay Transmission

Relay transmission is an efficient and effective method of controlling facsimile
call charges. The originating NEC IT3510/IT2510 sends a document to a
remote unit, which is designated as the relay hub station. This relay hub
station then "relays", or broadcasts, the document on to other units either
regionally, or globally.
For example, let's say a company has its headquarters in Chicago. A smaller,
regional office in Atlanta has some art proofs it needs to send to headquarters,
as well as some other regional offices on the west coast. The Atlanta office
can send the artwork on to Chicago, and also direct that the Chicago office
send the artwork on to the stations in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Phoenix.
The Atlanta office is only charged for the one facsimile call to Chicago, while
the unit at headquarters is charged for the broadcast transmission to the
remote stations.
Restrictions on the Use of the NEC IT3510/IT2510 as a Relay Station:
The NEC IT3510/IT2510 can be used as both an originating station and a relay hub
station.
Only NEC facsimile units can be used as a relay hub station, and only certain NEC
facsimile units are capable of the relay feature. Refer to your service dealer for more
information on which unit performs the relay feature.
Up to five relay stations and five final destination groups can be selected. If the NEC
IT3510/IT2510 is used as a relay hub station, the maximum number of specified final
destinations is 210.
Relay Transmission and Password Transmission can not be used simultaneously.
At the Originating Station:
Use the Program key to select the Relay Transmission feature. Register the relay
station(s) and the final destination stations in a Program key. Refer to Section 2.19
Registering Program Keys in Chapter 3 Registration and Setting Operations on page
3-67.
A Self-Abbreviated number must be registered in the originating station in order to
receive a status report from the relay station. Refer to Section 3.2 Registering a Self-
Abbreviated Number in Chapter 4 Advanced Registration and Setting Operations on
page 4-53.
