About Substitute Reception

If you are using the copy function and a fax comes while there is a paper jam or the machine runs out of paper or toner, the
fax is stored in memory (substitute reception), and the message "FAX RCVD IN MEMORY" is displayed. If the error
condition is corrected, the fax will print out automatically.
Substitute Reception
When the machine is in a power save mode and cannot immediately print the fax, the fax is stored in memory (substitute
reception). When the machine is ready for printing, printing begins. For more information about power save modes, see
the "POWER SAVE MODES" section of the copier operation manual.
Substitute Reception Cautions
If a paper jam or problem occurs when receiving a fax, that page and the rest of the original are stored in memory.
The number of originals that can be stored with the substitute reception function depends on the amount of memory
installed. If the amount of remaining memory is less than that listed in the table, substitute reception becomes impossible.
Installed Memory
Standard fax memory
2MB upgrade (AR-MM5) installed
4MB upgrade (AR-MM6) installed

You can use dual access even while substitute reception is being performed. (See page 2-11)
Using the Fax Data Transfer Mode, you can choose to have received faxes read into memory and

then sent to a different fax machine for printing. (See page Appendix-9) In that case, the received fax
is deleted from memory once it is sent to the remote fax machine. Also, you cannot use the Fax Data
Transfer Mode for confidential faxes.
