12. Install the relay test adapter on the SWM and select the
starts immediately.
If a faulty relay is detected, the Relay Test stops and an error message like the one below
is displayed:
PV. ERROR !! A relay is open (contacts will not MAKE).

Normally open contacts of a SENSE TRANSFER relay not functioning
properly.
While testing the HP 4085B 48-pin SWM, the Relay Test performs a Pin Board Test,
which checks all relays on the pin boards on/o (make/break) operation. When the Relay
Test nishes without errors, the test results are displayed as shown in Figure 6-13.
When testing the HP 4089B 96-pin SWM, the Relay Test performs a Pin Board Test and
an Input Relay Test, which checks all input relays on the port boards on/o (make/break)
operation. Note that you must remove the relay test adapter from the SWM when
performing the Input Relay Test.
If the SWM has a port expander, the Relay Test also tests the port expander relays.
Disconnect all unsupported instruments. Place BNC shorting caps on the connectors in
place of the unsupported instruments and also on unused coaxial connectors.
When the Relay Test nishes without errors, test results are displayed as shown in
Figure 6-14. If the port expander relays are also tested, the test results are displayed as
follows:
