Package execution dialogs

The package execution dialogs can be seen at Dialogs (Page 142).
Package execution is shown in the descriptions for the dialog pages in the "Dialog view while
executing the package (for commissioning engineers / operators)" section.

Executing the package under Linux

4.12.3.1

Introduction

Expert can deploy the package to a "normal USB FlashDrive" (or hard disk or CD) or a service
USB FlashDrive from Siemens. Both versions result in a different system behavior which is
subsequently explained.
Package execution from "normal USB FlashDrive":
If the package was transferred to a "normal USB Flash Drive" (or hard disk or CD) that cannot
be booted because it does not contain a Linux boot system from Siemens, the NCU/PPU starts
Linux from the CompactFlash card and then starts the package on the USB medium.
For this version, an operable Linux system (system software) must be available on the
CompactFlash card. The system software can be upgraded or reinstalled by the package.
Package execution from the service USB FlashDrive:
If the package was transferred to a service USB FlashDrive (from Siemens) that is bootable
because it contains a Linux boot system from Siemens, the NCU/PPU starts Linux from this
USB FlashDrive and then starts the package on the USB FlashDrive.
For this version, an operable Linux system is not required on the CompactFlash card (system
software), i.e. the CompactFlash card can also be empty.
Note
In this case, reinstallation of the system software is a precondition for package execution.
As soon as the installation on the CompactFlash card has completed, the package restarts
the NCU/PPU and forces Linux to start from the CompactFlash card.
If "None" or "Upgrade" is selected in the "CNC software" dialog and a system exists on the CF
card, the start is performed from the CF card during the dialog execution.
Package execution then continues as for a "normal USB FlashDrive".
4.12.3.2

Package execution on the NCU/PPU from the USB medium

The package generated by Expert for Linux with file extension "usz" should be transferred to
the root directory of a USB medium (USB FlashDrive, hard disk) – and this medium should be
inserted in a direct USB interface (X125 or X135) of the NCU 7x0. The package is automatically
started when the NCU/PPU boots.
