3. Rotate the wing nuts on the brake rods (Fig. 0289)
as follows:
• Clockwise to tighten the brake
• Counterclockwise to loosen the brake
Note: The right and left brake rods are adjusted
independently of each other.
Note: The control bar should be parallel with refer-
ence bar when properly adjusted.

4. Check the brake operation again. Refer to "Checking
the Brake" preceding.
Important: With the parking brake released, the rear
wheels must rotate freely when you push the mower.
If brake action and free wheel rotation cannot be
achieved, examine the brake system components for
wear or damage.
