Functionality
The runtime counter for machines and devices function MDSOPT calculates and
presents the accumulated operation time of a machine or device as the output. The unit
of time for accumulation is hour. The function generates a warning and an alarm when
the accumulated operation time exceeds the set limits. It utilizes a binary input to
indicate the active operation condition.
The accumulated operation time is one of the parameters for scheduling a service on
the equipment like motors. It indicates the use of the machine and hence the
mechanical wear and tear. Generally, the equipment manufacturers provide a
maintenance schedule based on the number of hours of service.
Operation principle
The function can be enabled and disabled with the Operation setting. The
corresponding parameter values are "on" and "off".
The operation of MDSOPT can be described using a module diagram. All the modules
in the diagram are explained in the next sections.

Operation time counter
This module counts the operation time. When POS_ACTIVE is active, the count is
continuously added to the time duration until it is deactivated. At any time the
OPR_TIME output is the total duration for which POS_ACTIVE is active. The unit of
time duration count for OPR_TIME is hour. The value is available through the
Monitored data view.
The OPR_TIME output is a continuously increasing value and it is stored in a
nonvolatile memory. When POS_ACTIVE is active, the OPR_TIME count starts
