computer (slave) can access IED signals (e.g., the master can set
On/Off/On/On[1011] in the slave Modbus addresses [00003~00006] by a
FC(0x0F) query)
[Type2] Discrete input (Function code: 0x02)
The Discrete input type is just provided to read an IED signal. The default
mapping—provided by the manufacture—is managed in order that the
application signals are transferred to the substation computer. The function
of the Discrete input type is designed reading 1-bit information.
[Type3] Input register (Function code: 0x04)
The Input register type is just provided to read an IED variable value. The
default mapping—provided by the manufacture—is managed in order that
the variable values of the measurement applications of the IED (slave) are
transferred to the substation computer (master). The function of the Input
register type is designed for 8~64-bits information.
[Type4] Holding register (Function code: 0x03, 0x06, and 0x10)
The Holding register type is provided to read/write an IED variable value.
The default mapping—provided by the manufacture—is managed in order
that a variable value of the clock application of the IED (slave) is set by the
substation computer (master). The function of the Holding register type is
designed for 8~64-bits information.
Function 0x10(16)—Write Multi registers—is provided so that the substation
computer can set variable values in the IEDs' sequential memories using a
message.
