Preparatory work

Raise the motorcycle with a lift stand. (fiS p. 11)
Main work

Shift the transmission to idle.

Check the rear sprocket and engine sprocket for wear.
» If the rear sprocket or engine sprocket is worn:
- Change the drivetrain kit. (S3 p. 116)

The engine sprocket, rear sprocket, and chain should always be
replaced together.

Weight of chain wear measurement
15 kg (33 lb.)

Measure distance © of 18 chain rollers in the lower chain section.

Chain wear is not always even, so you should repeat this measurement at
different chain positions.

Maximum distance © at the longest
chain section
272 mm (10.71 in)
If the distance © is greater than the specified measurement:
- Change the drivetrain kit. (83 p. 116)

When the chain is replaced, the rear sprocket and engine sprocket
should also be changed.
New chains wear out faster on an old, worn rear sprocket or engine
sprocket.
