Directional earth fault command protection (DEFCAR)
Directional earth fault command protection (DEFCAR) provides POP, UOP and BOP schemes
using two elements of earth fault protection between in forward and in reverse (DEFCF and
DEFCR‡). POP, UOP and BOP can issue a three-phase trip (3P) command. The POP, UOP and
BOP schemes also permit to operate the function of autoreclose (ARC†). The user can program
to issue either first or delayed tripping command; it is achieved with the delayed timer settings.
†Note: Autoreclose function (ARC) is discussed separately. See Chapter 2.22.
‡Note: In the DEFCAR function, an EF1 element is used as a forward element (DEFCF);
another EF2 element is used as a reverse element (DEFCR); Both the EF1 and
the EF2 elements are the function of earth fault protection (EF). For more
information, see Chapter 2.2.
