Probable Cause
■ The OSC receive power has fallen below
or exceeded the specified limit.
■ A connector in the OSC optical link is
dirty.
■ The opposite-end optical transmitter is
creating bit errors. Points of large
optical reflection exist along the OSC
link.
■ A hardware problem in the blade could
be causing line BER problems.
■ The BERSD-L threshold setting may not
be appropriate for the application in
use.

NEND The bit error rate signal degrade count has
exceeded the threshold value.
Suggested Corrective Action
1. Verify the local receive and upstream transmit level.
2. Clean the optical connectors.
3. Verify good optical connections to the local and far-end
blades and at the Lightwave Distribution Frame (LDF)
panels along the link.
4. Replace the far-end blade.
5. Retrieve the facility and check the BERSD-L threshold
setting in accordance with local practices.
Location Description
NEND The bit error rate signal failure count has
exceed the threshold value.
Suggested Corrective Action
1. Verify the local receive and upstream transmit level.
2. Clean the optical connectors.
3. Verify good optical connections to the local and far-end
blades and at the LDF panels along the link.
4. Replace the far-end blade.
5. Retrieve the facility and check the BERSF-L threshold
setting in accordance with local practices.
