System Maintenance
Equipment Replacement
Warning: Replace only one plug-in at a time, if power is applied to blade, to maintain proper air flow and
prevent damage due to potential overheating. The first PIU must be replaced before proceeding to replace
the next PIU.
Attention: Do not replace the PIU if replacing a contained SFP, SFP+, or CFP4 module can clear the
alarm.
Step 1
Retrieve alarms.
Command:
> show alarms alarm-list
Step 2
Are any alarms and standing conditions currently being reported?
If YES:
Clear all active alarms and standing conditions, as necessary, before continuing this procedure. After these
alarms and standing conditions are cleared, continue with the next step.
If NO:
Continue with next step.
Step 3
Is it possible that replacing a single pluggable optics module clears the current alarms?
If YES:
Do not continue this procedure. Replace the suspected pluggable optics module. Continue with next step
only if replacing the modules does not clear the problem.
If NO:
Continue with next step.
Step 4
Inspect the fiber connections to the PIU. Verify that each fiber is clearly marked or labeled to identify the correct
connection location.
Step 5
Is each fiber clearly marked to show its corresponding connector?
If YES:
Continue with next step.
If NO:
Mark or label fibers according to local practice and continue with the next step.
Step 6
Ensure that an appropriate ESD wrist strap is worn and is properly grounded onto the ESD wrist strap grounding
post on the chassis.
