3.6.3 Caution on Static Electricity

Ignition of flammable chemicals due to static
electricity!
When using flammable chemicals, be careful about
possible ignition due to static electricity. To prevent
ignition due to static electricity, observe the following
precautions.
(a) Use a grounded and conductive container for waste
solution in order to prevent a build-up of static
electricity.
(b) Do not bring a flame source near the instrument.
In a high performance liquid chromatograph, flammable organic
solvents are often used. Therefore, adequate attention should
be paid to a heat or flame source.
Static electricity is built up in a liquid chromatograph, because
thin tubes are used. If discharge occurs due to accumulation of
the charged liquid in an insulated waste solution container, etc.,
flammable substances will ignite if present nearby.
