8 NXDN CONVENTIONAL SYSTEM
8.1 Initiating Voice Communications (Basic Transmission and Reception)

Temporarily Disabling the Squelch (Squelch Off)

Squelch Off is the function to disable the RAN code and Optional Signaling configured for the channel on which the
transceiver waits for and unmutes the speaker upon detection of an NXDN frame.
With this function, the transceiver can unmute the speaker without receiving a carrier. A user can use this function to
monitor the availability of channels prior to transmitting in order to prevent from interfering with other parties.
To use this function, the Squelch Off or Squelch Off Momentary key must be assigned.
Or, pressing the Menu key causes the transceiver to enter Menu Mode, and then "Squelch Off" can be toggled between
enabled and disabled by selecting Squelch Off. (Refer to

Squelch Off
The "
" icon appears. The Busy LED lights green if Busy LED is
enabled.
The transceiver disables the RAN code and Optional Signaling
and unmutes the speaker upon detection of an NXDN frame.
White noise is audible if no carrier is received.

Squelch Off
The "
" icon disappears. A channel where RAN Decode or
Optional Signaling is configured resumes Signaling Squelch.
